Chapter Four
Sense of Taste
Our sense of taste is a fun way to open ourselves up to the
flow of creative energy. I’ve spent an abundance of time in the kitchen
taste-testing, one of my favorite benefits of being in my past career as a
special event coordinator and manager in the catering and restaurant
industries.
Just like our sense of smell, its close sibling, our sense
of taste, will entice, seduce, lure, and arouse the creative energies to flow
through us rather quickly. We all know what it’s like to be eating an
incredibly delicious meal and we keep eating, even though we’re full, because
it tastes so fantastic; we’re enjoying every last bite to savor the moment of
bliss ~ It makes us FEEL-GOOD and raises our vibrational frequency.
How many times have you experienced or heard someone else
experience eating a delectable dish and describe it as orgasmic, almost better
than sex? Think of the restaurant scene in the film When Harry Met Sally, where Meg Ryan fakes an orgasm, while eating
her meal. We’re usually experiencing a rush of endorphins being released from
our brains, such as sex and exercise can also do.
Most artists will tell you they have certain foods or snacks
they keep close-at-hand, when they’re creating their art (whether it’s
painting, writing, drawing etc); one of my creative energy boosts is dark
chocolate (a common favorite among many of my artist friends and colleagues).
Here’s a fun exercise to strengthen your sense of taste. Do
it with your eyes closed to heighten your experience. Do a wine or food
tasting with an assortment of different kinds; smell and taste each one, write
a description of each food or wine, and how it makes you feel. Have you ever
smelled or tasted chocolate wine or garlic ice cream? They’re incredibly
delicious and the aroma hypnotizes you just like the scent of hot, buttered
popcorn in theaters or freshly-baked chocolate chip cookies.
